Tigers' top prospect Jobe earns rotation spot to start season
Detroit Tigers top pitching prospect Jackson Jobe will begin the season in the starting rotation after the team optioned right-hander Keider Montero to Triple-A, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com.
Right-hander Casey Mize, who was taken with the No. 1 pick in the 2018 draft, will join Tarik Skubal, Jack Flaherty, and Reese Olson along with Jobe to start the 2025 campaign.
The 22-year-old Jobe is the widely considered the second-best pitching prospect in baseball outside of Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Roki Sasaki.
The Tigers promoted Jobe in September during their playoff push. He pitched out of the team's bullpen with mixed results, allowing three earned runs on five hits over 1 2/3 innings in the postseason. However, he recorded a 3.65 ERA with 0.89 WHIP and eight strikeouts across 12 1/3 innings this spring.
Meanwhile, Mize authored a 1.13 ERA with 0.94 WHIP and 18 strikeouts over 16 innings in Grapefruit League action.
Montero, 24, posted a 3.21 ERA with 1.29 WHIP and 17 strikeouts over 14 innings in spring training after making 16 regular-season starts for the club in 2024.
