Padres' Machado homers after Cubs drop 2 foul pop-ups
The Chicago Cubs learned the hard way that it's not a good idea to give Manny Machado a second or third chance to do damage at the plate.
Machado hit one of the more unique home runs this season in the fifth inning of Tuesday's game against the Cubs at Petco Park.
First, Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker dropped a pop-up in foul territory, giving Machado another opportunity. Following that, third baseman Gage Workman failed to corral an infield fly on a 2-1 pitch.
A few pitches later, Machado blasted a solo homer off Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.

The long ball was Machado's second home run of the season. The run was unearned for Imanaga, and he finished the outing with seven strikeouts in five innings to lower his season ERA to 2.22.
