Dave Stewart has informed the Arizona Diamondbacks he will interview for the team's vacant general manager position, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.
The former pitcher turned player agent is high on chief baseball officer Tony La Russa's list of candidates (see stack below) and appears to be the frontrunner to succeed Kevin Towers, who was relieved of his duties Sept. 5.
Stewart is expected to interview this week.
Other candidates for the job include Cardinals executive Gary LaRocque, Diamondbacks scouting director Ray Montgomery, and Yankees assistant GM Billy Eppler, to name a few.
