Red Sox hire Frank Wren as senior VP of baseball operations
The Boston Red Sox front office reshuffle continued Friday as the team announced Frank Wren has been hired as senior vice president of baseball operations.
Wren will serve as a talent evaluator and will assist Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski in all aspects of baseball operations, according to a team statement.
The 57-year-old served as general manager of the Atlanta Braves from 2008-14 before he was relieved of his duties last September following a 79-83 campaign.
Wren and Dombrowski's relationship dates back to the late 1980s, when the pair worked together with both the Montreal Expos and Florida Marlins.
Boston's front office has seen no shortage of changes over the last two months. Ben Cherington resigned as general manager following Dombrowski's hiring. The Red Sox found his replacement internally, promoting Mike Hazen to GM.
