The St. Louis Cardinals may have a new first baseman in 2016.
Matt Holliday is working out at first base this winter at the team's facility in Jupiter, Fla., according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.
The 35-year-old outfielder is making the transition in an attempt to prolong his career, and could replace Matt Adams as the everyday first baseman next season. However, the Cardinals aren't particularly deep in the outfield following the departures of Jon Jay, Peter Bourjos, and Jason Heyward.
Holliday played in just 73 games last year due to injury, hitting .279/.394/.410 with four homers and 35 RBIs.
