Report: Jerry West, Clippers have spoken about move from Warriors
The Los Angeles Clippers are looking into luring Jerry West from the Golden State Warriors and have already held discussions with him, sources told ESPN's Marc Stein.
West joined the Warriors in 2011 in an advisory role as an executive board member, and Stein reports that Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and president Doc Rivers have already talked to the 79-year-old about employing him in a similar manner.
Golden State owner Joe Lacob made it clear earlier in May that he would like West, whose contract is set to expire after the NBA Finals, to return to the organization next season.
"We want him back," Lacob told the Bay Area News Group's Tim Kawakami at the time. "We love him. He's been a great contributor to the organization, someone I consider a personal friend as well. We would love him back, and we've made that known."
West is of course very familiar with Los Angeles, having become a Lakers legend while playing for the team from 1960-74, then coaching the squad from 1976-1979, and finally serving as general manager (1982-94) and executive vice president of basketball operations (1995-2000) during some of the Lakers' most successful seasons.
