Report: Nets players, coaches wanted Simmons to play in Game 4
Brooklyn Nets players and coaches were left bewildered when Ben Simmons decided to sit out the team's season-ending Game 4 against the Boston Celtics, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Teammates and coaches understand Simmons' issues but wanted him to show resolve even if for limited minutes or at least dress for the contest, Charania reports.
Simmons and Klutch Points CEO Rich Paul reportedly met with Brooklyn Nets leadership on Monday to discuss the plan for his eventual return to the hardwood. The 25-year-old reiterated the mental block stemming from last postseason while committing to playing basketball for the team, Charania adds.
Previous reports suggested Simmons would make his Nets and season debut in Game 4. However, the three-time All-Star told the team he had back pain Sunday despite participating in on-court practices and workouts throughout the week.
The Celtics completed the sweep Monday, as the Nets became the first team eliminated from the playoffs.
