Report: Walter McCarty joins Celtics coaching staff

According to a tweet from Kyle Draper of Comcast SportsNet New England, Walter McCarty will be the newest member of the Boston Celtics' coaching staff.

Jeff Goodman of ESPN confirmed the news.

The move has not been confirmed by the team but has been rumored for several days. New head coach Brad Stevens has been piecing together his assistant coaches and had apparently met with the former Celtic at least twice.

It is unclear at present what role McCarty will play on the staff, though Stevens had apparently identified ex-players as a necessity given his lack of NBA track record.

McCarty (first name pr. "Wal-tahhhhh") played eight seasons in Boston from 1997 to 2005, averaging 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds over 522 games. He has been retired since 2006 but remains the all-time leader in Tommy Points.
