Nets' Sharpe to miss at least 6 weeks, Watford out 2
The Brooklyn Nets announced Monday they'll be without center Day'Ron Sharpe for at least six weeks after he was diagnosed with a hamstring injury suffered at practice last week, according to SNY's Ian Begley.
Fourth-year forward Trendon Watford also injured his hamstring and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, Begley adds.
Sharpe, 22, appeared in 61 games for the Nets last season and averaged a career-high in points (6.8), rebounds (6.4), and assists (1.4). The North Carolina product is in the final year of his rookie contract and will become a restricted free agent next summer. His absence to begin the season should give more minutes to 2023 first-round pick Noah Clowney, who will take over as the primary backup to Nic Claxton.
Watford inked a one-year, $2.7-million deal with the Nets in the offseason. The 23-year-old played in 63 games for Brooklyn last year, averaging 6.9 points and 3.1 assists.
The Nets will begin their 2024-25 campaign on Oct. 23 against the Atlanta Hawks.
