The Atlanta Hawks are signing forward Jalen Johnson to a fully guaranteed five-year, $150-million extension on his rookie deal, his representation told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Johnson broke out in his third season, averaging 16 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. He averaged 4.9 points in limited minutes in his first two campaigns.

"Jalen Johnson embodies the characteristics we look for as an organization, both on and off the court," Hawks general manager Landry Fields said in a statement. "He has shown continuous improvement each year and has the character and the work ethic to continue to grow his game. He has developed into a significant part of our team and we're thrilled to continue his development in Atlanta."

Johnson is one of six players in NBA history to average at least 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and one 3-pointer per game.

The Hawks drafted the former Duke forward with the 20th pick in 2021.

Johnson, 22, is expected to receive more offensive responsibility after Atlanta traded Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans this offseason.

The Hawks begin the season at home Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets.
