Report: Durant, Harden, Love among stars to attend USA Basketball minicamp
The list of attendees for next month's USA Basketball minicamp continues to grow after managing director Jerry Colangelo made attendance mandatory for anyone interested in playing in the 2016 Olympics.
Kevin Durant is the latest star to throw his proverbial hat in the ring, according to USA Today Sports' Sam Amick. Durant withdrew from the national team last summer, prior to the squad's trip to Spain for the FIBA World Cup, citing mental and physical exhaustion.
Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love will also attend, ESPN's Marc Stein reports. Love is still rehabbing from a dislocated shoulder - an injury sustained in the close-out game of Cleveland's first-round playoff series against the Boston Celtics.
Earlier in the day, James Harden of the Houston Rockets was added to the mix, according to ESPN's Calvin Watkins. Harden played on both the 2012 Olympic gold medal-winning U.S. squad and last summer's FIBA World Cup championship team.
Blake Griffin, Kawhi Leonard, Andre Drummond, Chandler Parsons, Michael Carter-Williams, and four key members of the Golden State Warriors will reportedly also attend.
The list is hardly surprising after Colangelo's declaration, as even those with only an outside shot at making the Olympic roster are attending the three-day minicamp to keep their names in consideration for Rio de Janeiro.
USA Basketball's focus for the camp, which will be held in Las Vegas, is not on-court work, but mostly dialogue and getting confirmation on interest in next summer, Stein adds.
New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony is also expected to attend, but is unlikely to participate in any scrimmages as he's still recovering from knee surgery. DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors is expected to show, but not necessarily hit the hardwood.
Although Damian Lillard was previously expected to take part, he indicated otherwise in an interview Saturday.
