The New York Knicks have officially re-signed Lou Amundson, the team announced Thursday.
Amundson agreed to a one-year deal worth a reported $1.65 million on July 11 - a shade over the veteran's minimum. The Knicks were able to sign Amundson into cap space, maintaining their $2.8-million Room Exception, though it's unclear if they have any remaining free agent targets to use that money on so late in the offseason.
While it's only a one-year deal, it's a nice bit of security for the 32-year-old, who has played for 10 teams over nine NBA seasons. Should he play even 20 games with the Knicks this season, they'll become his second-longest tenured team at 61 games, a remarkable nod to the uncertain journeyman status Amundson has occupied throughout his career.
Amundson has changed locations so many times that his Twitter bio leaves a blank space for his current team.
Acquired in a three-team trade in January and immediately waived, the Knicks quickly signed Amundson back a few days later, first on 10-day contracts and then for the remainder of the season. He endeared himself enough to the Knicks that general manager Steve Mills touted him as "a guy who can be part of something" and someone the team wanted to retain.
Over 399 career games, the 6-foot-9 Amundson has averaged 3.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in 13.3 minutes, shooting 47.8 percent from the floor.
