Report: Oklahoma's Arnold to enter transfer portal
Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold will enter the transfer portal after a season in which he was briefly benched, a source told Max Olson of ESPN.
Arnold came to Oklahoma as the No. 3 overall recruit in the class of 2023 and sat his freshman season behind Dillon Gabriel. He took over the starting job after the veteran passer transferred to Oregon but struggled mightily amid a slew of receiver injuries in Norman.
He was eventually benched by Brent Venables during a September home loss to Tennessee after completing only 7 of 16 pass attempts with an interception in the opening half. Freshman Michael Hawkins took over and would start the next three games before being benched during a 35-9 home loss to South Carolina.
Arnold performed admirably once reinserted into the lineup, ending the season with 12 touchdowns against just three interceptions. He established himself as a dangerous runner down the stretch, piling up 131 yards on the ground in a stunning upset over Alabama in Week 13.
