Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty feels like he deserved the Heisman Trophy.

Jeanty finished as the runner-up for college football's top honor as Colorado's star two-way player, Travis Hunter, claimed the award. The voting came down to the wire, with Hunter earning 2,231 points and Jeanty getting 2,017 points.

"I really felt like I should've walked away with the award, but kudos to Travis for winning," Jeanty said Saturday, according to ESPN. "But yeah, it's simple as that. Work harder, go harder."

Jeanty added, "This isn't the end, this is just the beginning."

Jeanty is in the midst of a historic season. He boasts 2,497 rushing yards, just 131 yards shy of Barry Sanders' single-season record of 2,628.

Jeanty is guaranteed at least one more crack at Sanders' record on Dec. 31 when Boise State plays in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal. Its opponent will either be SMU or Penn State.

Though he fell short, Jeanty was the first running back to finish second in Heisman voting since Stanford's Bryce Love in 2017.
