MLB Daily Fantasy Dose: Bautista is Better When He's Angry

Here's a look at the MLB daily fantasy picture for Monday, May 16:
Stacks of the Day
- Los Angeles Dodgers, vs. Angels: The Dodgers are 6-3 in their last nine games and will face arguably the worst pitcher on Monday's slate. Matt Shoemaker might have to revolt back to the family business soon if he doesn't start pitching better. His 9.12 ERA would be passable as a back-end starter in a men's slo-pitch league. The Dodgers should take Game 1 of the Freeway Series by a wide margin.
3-player stack: Chase Utley, Corey Seager, Adrian Gonzalez
5-player stack: Utley, Seager, Gonzalez, Howie Kendrick, Joc Pederson
- Texas Rangers, at Oakland: A's lefty Sean Manaea might not be ready for the show just yet. The youngster has allowed 21 hits and 16 earned runs in 12 2/3 innings so far. Expect a lineup of veteran hitters - especially Texas' righties - to feast off Manaea, who will likely be sent back down to Triple-A with another bad start.
3-player stack: Ian Desmond, Adrian Beltre, Ryan Rua
5-player stack: Rougned Odor, Desmond, Nomar Mazara, Beltre, Rua
- Arizona Diamondbacks, vs. Yankees: RHP Chad Green will make his first big league start on Monday. Usually this can be tricky for a team seeing a pitcher with no major league scouting report, but Green isn't even listed as one of New York's top-30 prospects. He has pitched well at Triple-A this season, but his scouting report is not pretty. His fastball is very flat and his off-speed repertoire is below average.
3-player stack: Jean Segura, Paul Goldschmidt, Brandon Drury
5-player stack: Segura, Goldschmidt, Welington Castillo, Yasmany Tomas, Drury.

Contrarian Options
- OF Jose Bautista, Blue Jays (vs. Rays): Bautista was intentionally hit by a pitch and then punched in the face on Sunday against Texas. Bautista has always elevated his game after being thrown at; just ask Darren O'Day and Ivan Nova. His ownership will be low thanks to his current cold streak, but he could bust out against LHP Drew Smyly, who has surrendered five homers in two starts against Toronto this season.
- SS Marcus Semien, A's (vs. Rangers): Semien is one of the most expensive shortstops on the slate, which will likely lead to low ownership because of his .217 batting average this season. However, Semien's nine homers are the most among AL shortstops. His OPS against LHP (.843) dwarfs his OPS against RHP (.654) in his career. Rangers LHP Derek Holland has allowed 15 earned runs in his last two starts.
- SP Jose Berrios, Twins (at Tigers): Minnesota's prized pitching prospect has struggled in his three major league starts thus far. He did clean up his walks in his last start, surrendering just one free pass compared to seven over his first two starts. He has already struck out 19 batters in 14 1/3 innings this season, and Detroit has struck out fifth-most in all of baseball. The Tigers are 2-11 in their last 13 games.

Bargain Plays
- OF Brandon Guyer, Rays (at Blue Jays): Guyer hits lefties very well, and all pitchers hit him very well. Since 2015, Guyer has been hit by 36 pitches in just 472 plate appearances. He has .277/.372/.446 slash line in his career against lefties, and is likely to reach base out of the leadoff spot against LHP J.A. Happ.
- 3B Danny Valencia, A's (vs. Rangers): Valencia has turned into a more well-rounded hitter over the past couple of seasons, and slugged three homers on Sunday. He still demolishes lefties, however. He has a slash line of .323/.372/.505 in his career against southpaws.
- 3B/OF Brandon Drury, Diamondbacks (vs. Yankees): Drury went 4-for-4 on Sunday, raising his batting average to .320 on the season. There's a chance this showing will lead to a higher spot in the batting order, but nonetheless, he's a great bargain considering his production. The D-Backs should tag rookie pitcher Chad Green.
