Report: United to land Lukaku in £100M deal; Rooney off to Everton
Chelsea's frantic late attempt to hijack Manchester United's move for Romelu Lukaku looks destined to fail, as the Guardian's Dominic Fifield reports that the Red Devils are slated to clinch the deal this weekend after presenting a package to Everton that hits the £100-million mark.
Lukaku, who is said to have undergone a medical in Los Angeles - where he has been on holiday with close friend Paul Pogba - could be officially presented as a United player on Saturday.

Per Fifield, the deal will see Jose Mourinho's side pay an initial £75-million fee, with a further £15 million in "easily attainable add-ons linked to achievements and appearances" heading to the Toffees.
While not officially part of the enormous package for Lukaku, Wayne Rooney will indeed be returning to Everton after his decorated spell at Old Trafford. Fifield explains:
While the former England captain and United's record goal-scorer was never formally considered to be returning to Goodison Park in part-exchange, his valuation had in effect been built into the Lukaku deal, pushing the overall value of United's offer to the £100 million Everton had always been seeking for the 24-year-old striker.
Rooney is "nominally valued at around £10 million," notes Fifield.
All told, the offer easily exceeds Chelsea's reported £75-million bid, which the Blues came in with on Friday in a manic effort to pip their Premier League rival to a player they sent packing for just £28 million three years ago.
Lukaku, who has 85 goals to his name over the past five Premier League seasons, is expected to link up with Manchester United on Sunday, when the club will be landing in the U.S. ahead of its five-match pre-season tour of the country.
