Chelsea sign Chilwell from Leicester for reported £50M fee
Chelsea's summer spending spree continues.
The Blues completed the signing of Ben Chilwell on Wednesday, paying Leicester City a reported £50 million for the English left-back.
He signed a five-year deal with the club.
The 23-year-old joins fellow high-priced acquisitions Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech at Stamford Bridge, with Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva, and Malang Sarr also expected to arrive in west London imminently.
"I am delighted to be joining Chelsea at this very exciting time for the club," Chilwell said. "I'm looking forward to being a part of this young, dynamic squad led by Frank Lampard as we challenge for honors next season. I can't wait to get started and hopefully it won't be long before we're playing in front of the Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge."
Chilwell missed the latter stages of Leicester's season with a heel injury that's expected to keep him sidelined for the next three weeks, though Chelsea are monitoring the situation and have no long-term concerns.
The English international has long been Lampard's primary target to strengthen the left-back position. It remains to be seen if either Emerson Palmieri or Marcos Alonso are shipped off in corresponding moves.
