Report: Thibodeau pushing Knicks to make win-now moves
If Tom Thibodeau has his way, the New York Knicks will be very active over the next few weeks.
The new Knicks head coach is pushing the front office to make win-now moves, Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reports.
New York has already been linked to Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook as well as free agents Fred VanVleet and Davis Bertans.
The Knicks are among a few teams with cap room this offseason and can create more flexibility if they decline Bobby Portis' $15.8-million team option for 2020-21. The club has also reportedly informed teams that it is willing to take on bad contracts in order to obtain an asset.
The NBA's trade moratorium is expected to be lifted early next week, while free agency is scheduled to begin Nov. 20.
New York holds the No. 8 pick in the 2020 draft. The club registered a 21-45 record in 2019-20 as it missed the playoffs for the seventh straight season.
