Bedard sets Canada's all-time WJHC records for goals, points
Connor Bedard has pushed himself further into Canadian lore at the World Junior Championship.
The 17-year-old phenom broke Canada's all-time record for goals and points at the tournament - benchmarks previously held by Jordan Eberle (14) and Eric Lindros (31), respectively.
He accomplished the feat with the opening tally against Slovakia in the quarters on Monday night.
Bedard also collected an assist and then added an unbelievable goal in overtime to raise his totals.
Player | GP | G | P |
---|---|---|---|
Connor Bedard | 14 | 16 | 34 |
Eric Lindros | 21 | 12 | 31 |
Jordan Eberle | 12 | 14 | 26 |
Statistics from the canceled 2022 world juniors are included in Bedard's totals.
The projected 2023 No. 1 pick has registered eight goals and 13 assists so far in the tournament. His 19th point set the Canadian record for most in a single world juniors, which was previously held by Dale McCourt in 1977 and Brayden Schenn in 2011. His 13th assist passed Jason Allison in 1995 for the most helpers in a single tournament by a Canadian.
Bedard's 19th point also broke Jaromir Jagr's record for most points in a single tournament by a player under the age of 18.
The North Vancouver product still has a ways to go catch Peter Forsberg, though. The Swedish legend holds the world junior record for all-time points (42) and points at a single tournament (31).
Markus Naslund holds the record for most goals at a single world juniors (13), while Pavel Bure owns the all-time record (27).
