Report: Blazers match Mavericks' offer sheet for Thybulle

The Portland Trail Blazers matched the offer sheet that wing Matisse Thybulle signed with the Dallas Mavericks, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Dallas offered Thybulle a three-year deal in the range of $33 million, and there's a player option worth $11.5 million for the third season, Wojnarowski reports.

Thybulle played 22 games, all starts, after the Blazers acquired him from the Philadelphia 76ers at last year's trade deadline. He averaged 7.4 points per contest, which would have represented a career high over a season.

Known much more for his defensive prowess, Thybulle has made two All-Defensive second teams since being selected with the No. 20 pick in 2019. One of the league's most aggressive defenders, Thybulle has averaged at least 1.2 steals per game in all four of his NBA seasons.

Thybulle's role for next season remains unclear, as Portland continues to work through the potential trade of disgruntled star Damian Lillard.

Meanwhile, for Dallas, the blow of missing out on the defensive-minded wing is softened by the team's reported acquisition of former Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams in a three-team trade Wednesday.
