Report: Cowboys reuniting with Zeke
The Dallas Cowboys are reuniting with Ezekiel Elliott.
Dallas has agreed to terms with the three-time Pro Bowl running back pending a physical, reports NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Elliott is expected to sign a one-year deal worth $3 million with $2 million in guaranteed money, according to Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram.
Running back was a major need for the Cowboys entering the 2024 NFL Draft last week, but they didn't select anybody at that position despite losing Tony Pollard in free agency. Dallas had been in talks with Elliott for weeks.
Elliott spent the 2023 season with the New England Patriots, rushing for 642 yards (3.5 per carry) and three touchdowns. The 2016 fourth overall pick played his first seven NFL seasons in Dallas and led the league in rushing twice. He also earned three Pro Bowl berths in his first four campaigns.
However, the 28-year-old has failed to replicate that production in recent years and hasn't averaged more than 4.5 yards per rushing attempt since 2019. He did score 12 rushing TDs in his final season with the Cowboys in 2022, but nine of those scores were inside the 5-yard line.
The former Ohio State star ranks third all time on the Cowboys with 8,282 yards and 68 touchdowns on the ground.
In addition to Elliott, Dallas' running back depth chart features Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, and Royce Freeman, among others.
