Yankees' Boone to give struggling Torres break: 'He needs it'
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone plans to give struggling infielder Gleyber Torres a few days out of the lineup to reset.
"Just felt like he needs it," Boone said Wednesday, according to SNY. "Might give him a couple days here, just to kind of reset."
Torres committed a costly error and went hitless in four at-bats in the Yankees' 9-7 loss to the New York Mets on Tuesday. He's hitting just .215 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs in 80 games this season.
The 27-year-old failed to hustle to first base on a ground ball in the eighth inning - something Boone took into consideration in holding him out of the lineup.

"That certainly got my attention," Boone said, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.
Torres is in his final season under team control and is expected to become a free agent following the 2024 campaign.
"He's too important and a guy that I'm confident will get going," Boone said, per SNY. "But it's been a grind. It's been a struggle, I think he's feeling that a little bit. I think it's hopefully something that will serve him well mentally, physically, to just take an exhale and then work to get him rolling."
