Devers won't play in All-Star Game due to lingering shoulder soreness
Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers won't take part in the All-Star Game because of lingering shoulder soreness, manager Alex Cora said Tuesday, according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo.
"He's been grinding through it," Cora said, per the Boston Globe's Alex Speier. "But at the end of the day, he's Raffy Devers. He finds a way."
Devers, who'll be replaced by Baltimore Orioles third baseman Jordan Westburg, was selected as a reserve to his third Midsummer Classic over the last four years. Cleveland Guardians star José Ramírez is starting at the hot corner for the AL.
The 27-year-old Devers is having the best season of his eight-year career, slashing .293/.378/.593 with 21 homers and 55 RBIs over 77 games. His 3.3 fWAR is also tops among all major-league third basemen.
The All-Star Game is July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
