The Toronto Maple Leafs signed undrafted defenseman Blake Smith to a three-year, entry-level contract beginning next season, the team announced Thursday.
Smith, 20, tallied 10 goals and 32 points in 64 games with the Flint Firebirds in his final OHL campaign. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound rearguard also registered 54 penalty minutes and led the Firebirds with a plus-15 rating.
The Oshawa, Ontario, native attended the Detroit Red Wings' training camp last fall as a free-agent invite.
Smith is the fourth undrafted prospect signed by the Maple Leafs this year. He joins forwards Borya Valis and Luke Haymes and defenseman John Prokop.
