Stephen Jones: 'Can lay your head on the pillow better' having Dalton
Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones believes newly signed backup quarterback Andy Dalton can be valuable, and he referenced a similar situation in the division to further illustrate that point.
"To have a guy like Andy Dalton come in here - not unlike what (the Philadelphia Eagles) had with Nick Foles when Carson Wentz went down - to be able to take control and win games, win huge games for you if that's what you need is really important," Jones said Wednesday on 1310 "The Ticket Radio," according to ESPN's Todd Archer.
He added: "Certainly you can lay your head on the pillow better at night knowing you have someone like Andy Dalton."
The Philadelphia Eagles brought Foles in for a second stint with the team in 2017. He filled in for an injured Wentz during the final three games of the regular season and led Philadelphia to its first Super Bowl title.
Dallas signed Dalton last week to a one-year contract worth $7 million. The three-time Pro Bowler spent his first nine NFL seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, during which he posted a record of 70-61-2.
Dak Prescott has yet to miss a game since stepping into the Cowboys' starting quarterback role as a fourth-round rookie in 2016. The 26-year-old established career highs in yards (4,902) and touchdowns (30) last season.
Dallas placed its franchise tag on Prescott this offseason as both parties failed to agree on a long-term contract. It was reported earlier in April that Prescott won't participate in the Cowboys' virtual offseason program - which started on April 20 - without a new deal.
