Payton confirms Broncos' Patrick suffered torn Achilles
Denver Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick suffered a complete tear of his Achilles, head coach Sean Payton confirmed Tuesday, according to NFL Network James Palmer.
Patrick sustained the season-ending ailment on a non-contact play during practice. Payton said after Monday's training session that the team feared an Achilles injury for the pass-catcher.
"I was watching it directly 'cause he was running a route and it was something we corrected earlier," Payton said. "Planted, thought it looked like he slipped. ... Wasn't any contact, it was just kind of coming out of a cut."
Payton added: "It's difficult for his teammates, for all of us."
Patrick also missed the entire 2022 campaign after tearing the ACL in his right knee last August.
The 29-year-old wideout went undrafted out of Utah in the 2017 draft. Patrick has 143 career receptions for 2,009 yards and 12 touchdowns in 55 career games, all with the Broncos.
Denver's wide receiver depth chart is headlined by Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy, who led the team with 67 catches, 972 yards, and six touchdown receptions in 2022. The Broncos also drafted wideout Marvin Mims in the second round this year and signed Marquez Callaway in free agency.
