Report: Herbert fractured finger on non-throwing hand, won't miss time

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert sustained a fractured finger on his non-throwing hand during Sunday's 24-17 win against the Las Vegas Raiders, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Herbert briefly exited the contest before returning with a splint and bandages on his left hand. He also a suffered a "gruesome" nail injury to the same finger, according to Rapoport, who adds that the star signal-caller is not expected to miss time. The Chargers are on a bye this week.

The 25-year-old was seemingly injured while being blocked by two Raiders defenders in an interception return during the third quarter. Herbert didn't miss any snaps in Week 4 and was able to finish the game with 167 passing yards and one touchdown against one interception. He also helped L.A. seal its second win in 2023 with a perfect 51-yard pass to Joshua Palmer on a third-and-10 with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter and the Chargers up 24-17.

Herbert added 27 yards and two scores on the ground.

The one-time Pro Bowler has completed 71% of his passes for 1,106 yards and seven touchdowns to one interception through four games this season.

The Chargers gave him a five-year, $262.5-million contract extension in July.
