Vic Fangio knows James Bradberry's transition from cornerback to safety will be challenging, but the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator has faith he can handle the move.

"You say you've seen that a lot over the years. The truth is, no, you haven't," Fangio said Thursday, according to Dave Uram of KYW Newsradio. "The list of guys successfully transitioning from corner to safety is very small - with success. ... We'll see if he can do that."

He added: "James has got a good feel for football, very knowledgeable. So, that will help him in that transition."

Fangio said Bradberry will still play some corner for Philadelphia as he transitions to safety.

The 30-year-old saw second-team safety reps at practice Thursday, per John Clark of NBCS.

Bradberry had arguably the worst year of his career in 2023 after earning second-team All-Pro honors in 2022. He totaled 13 passes defended (his fewest since 2019) and only one interception in 16 starts. Bradberry allowed a 59.3% completion percentage and 740 yards when targeted, per Pro Football Reference.

The Eagles made multiple moves this offseason to help bolster the secondary. They signed defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson and drafted Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in the first and second rounds of the 2024 draft. Philadelphia also brought back Avonte Maddox and rosters young corners Kelee Ringo and Eli Ricks.

Bradberry signed a three-year, $38-million contract with Philadelphia in March 2023. The Samford product has 112 passes defended and 19 interceptions in 125 career contests.
