Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott is hopeful that he and the Cowboys can reach an agreement on an extension, saying "It can be done."

However, Prescott wants to make sure he keeps other NFL quarterbacks in mind amid the ongoing discussions.

"I'm a guy that grew up with two older brothers," Prescott said, according to ESPN's Todd Archer. "You understand what a brotherhood means, not only for just this team but the fraternity of the NFL and the players. The money is out there and the money can happen. It can be done. There's ways to make everything work for both ways. ... It's always about pushing the envelope for the next man."

Prescott is entering the final season of his four-year, $140-million contract, which includes a cap number of $55 million in 2024. The deal also has a no-trade and no-tag clause, so the three-time Pro Bowler would become a free agent if the two sides can't reach an agreement by March 2025.

Prescott could become the first NFL player ever to sign a deal averaging at least $60 million per year. However, it doesn't sound like an agreement is imminent, and the 31-year-old recently admitted that playing for another team one day "may be a reality."

"I've never truly cared about the number, whether it was the first time in the franchise tag and the negotiations or now," Prescott said. "That's why I said I have an agent that I'm confident in and a front office that we can figure out something for both of us that makes sense."

Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, and Jordan Love top the QB position with a $55-million average annual salary. Love inked his four-year, $220-million extension July 26.

Prescott boasts a regular-season record of 73-41 as a starter. He led the NFL with 410 completions and 36 touchdown passes last year.

Prescott's favorite target, All-Pro receiver CeeDee Lamb, is also in extension talks with the Cowboys. However, Lamb is holding out of training camp.

"He shared with me he's wanting to get back, ready to get back, hoping this thing gets done for him. I know I am as well," Prescott said. "Hopefully we'll get him back sooner than later."
