The Los Angeles Rams granted linebacker Ernest Jones permission to seek a trade amid stalled extension talks, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Jones is scheduled to become a free agent following the 2024 season.

He appeared surprised about L.A. granting him permission to explore other options, posting on X that he didn't request to be traded.

The 6-foot-2, 233-pound defender admitted that he was looking for a new deal from the Rams this offseason.

"I know that the work that I've put in these past three years, I know I'm worthy of something regardless what the worth may be," Jones said in July, according to The Orange County Register's Adam Grosbard.

The Rams also roster linebackers Christian Rozeboom, Jacob Hummel, and Troy Reeder, among others.

Jones, 24, tallied a career-best 145 total tackles in 15 contests last season. He also racked up 4.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, and six pass deflections.

L.A. selected the South Carolina product in the third round of the 2021 draft. Jones has totaled 320 total tackles (19 for loss), 5.5 sacks, 12 pass deflections, and three interceptions in 47 career games.
