Dalvin Cook signing with Cowboys
Four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook is signing with the Dallas Cowboys, his agency told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Cook worked out with the Cowboys on Tuesday before he joined the team. Dallas plans to have him ramp up on the practice squad before activating him, Pelissero adds.
The Cowboys needed to bolster a backfield consisting of Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, and Deuce Vaughn. Including Cook, those four running backs combined for 1,257 rushing yards in 2023, though none cracked over 650 yards individually.
Cook spent the majority of last season with the New York Jets but failed to make an impression. He averaged a career-worst 3.2 yards per carry and totaled 214 yards on 67 carries.
He was released by the Jets in January and picked up by the Baltimore Ravens for their playoff run. He tallied eight carries for 23 yards in their divisional-round win over the Houston Texans, though 19 of his 23 yards came on a single rushing attempt.
The 29-year-old spent the first six seasons of his career with the Minnesota Vikings, where he produced four seasons with over 1,000 rushing yards.
