San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and his team are "pissed" after letting the Los Angeles Rams complete a 14-point comeback win Sunday.

"It was unacceptable," linebacker Fred Warner said, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. "We can't do that. We can't beat ourselves. Can't make those type of mistakes again. All three phases have got to play better. We'll look at the tape, fix it, and move on."

San Francisco scored 14 points and shut out Los Angeles in the first quarter before the Rams began to claw their way back in the second. L.A. ultimately won 27-24 on a game-winning field goal with under five seconds left on the clock.

Shanahan said pregame that the 49ers had to limit the Rams' hope and not give quarterback Matthew Stafford a shot to win it for L.A. in the fourth quarter. After the loss, the head coach said his team didn't achieve that task, especially after San Francisco missed a 55-yard field goal and surrendered a long punt return late in the matchup.

"That's where I thought we had a chance to run away with it, not give them any hope," Shanahan said. "That gave them a lot of hope."

Quarterback Brock Purdy had one of the best statistical games of his career in the loss, even with an injury-ridden lineup that didn't include running back Christian McCaffrey, tight end George Kittle, or wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Purdy completed 22 of 30 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings was his top target, tallying 175 yards and three touchdowns on 11 receptions.

The signal-caller accepted that solid individual performances aren't enough to win games on their own and that success from the 2023-24 campaign doesn't carry over to this season.

"That's just part of the NFL and being a professional in a professional sport, everybody's really good," Purdy said. "Last year means absolutely nothing. And every time you show up on Sunday, you're going to get everybody's best shot."

He added: "We have to have the mindset of going and taking it every Sunday and nothing's ever going to be given to us."

The 49ers will look to rebound from their 1-2 start at home against the New England Patriots next week.
