Saints' Carr 'would welcome' new reunion with Adams

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr would be happy if he had a chance to play with disgruntled Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams again.

"I think all 32 quarterbacks would love to play with Davante. We would welcome that," Carr said Thursday, according to ESPN's Katherine Terrell. "I don't know if I can get in trouble for saying that. I just think everyone kind of knows that. ... I think everyone would love to play with Tay. I would obviously welcome playing with him again if that ever worked out in our careers."

Adams reportedly requested a trade only five weeks into his third season with the Raiders, who acquired him from the Green Bay Packers during the 2022 offseason. Vegas is rumored to want a second-round pick and additional compensation for the 31-year-old wideout.

Adams and Carr played together at Fresno State during their college careers, and the two repeatedly teased playing together before the Raiders traded for Adams two years ago.

However, the duo played only 15 games together in 2022, as Las Vegas decided to part ways with Carr and benched him for the final two games that season. Adams caught 12 touchdowns from Carr and then added two more scores from Jarrett Stidham to finish that campaign with an NFL-high 14 TD receptions. Las Vegas posted a 6-11 record that year.

"He did have 1,500 yards. I think I threw him like 12 touchdowns," Carr added about playing with Adams in 2022. "We didn't win as many games as we thought, but it wasn't all bad. We had fun doing it, that's for sure."

The QB factor seems to be important for Adams again as he eyes a change of scenery. The Saints and New York Jets - who are led by Aaron Rodgers, Adams' former passer in Green Bay - are reportedly high on the receiver's wish list of preferred destinations due to familiarity with the quarterbacks.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are also apparently interested in Adams, who's battling a hamstring injury and is expected to miss a second straight game in Week 5.

The Saints' offense caught fire to start the season, scoring 91 points through the first two games to start 2-0. But New Orleans has now suffered two consecutive losses, averaging 18 points in the defeats.

New Orleans rosters one of the NFL's best young receivers in Chris Olave, who leads the club with 20 catches for 265 yards in 2024. The team also employs Rashid Shaheed, a legit big-play threat who tops the Saints with two TD receptions. However, New Orleans lacks depth at the position, as it has no other WR with more than five catches this year.
