Lions' Hutchinson undergoes surgery to repair fractured tibia, fibula

Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson underwent successful surgery to repair a fractured tibia and fibula on Sunday night, the team announced on Monday. The Michigan product is expected to make a full recovery, but there is no timeline for his return to the field.

Hutchinson was carted off the field during Sunday's 47-9 win over the Dallas Cowboys after sustaining a serious leg injury.

"He'll be down for a while," head coach Dan Campbell said, according to Colton Pouncy of The Athletic.

Hutchinson - an early Defensive Player of the Year contender - had an air cast on his leg as he exited the game early in the third quarter with Detroit up 34-6. The Lions officially ruled him out minutes later with a lower-leg injury.

The 24-year-old got hurt while sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Cameras later showed the Lions star seemingly saying he broke his leg.

Members of both teams were visibly emotional on the field and showed love to Hutchinson after the injury.

The 2022 No. 2 pick leads the NFL with 7.5 sacks this season.

Hutchinson earned his first Pro Bowl nod after setting a career high with 11.5 sacks in 2023. He's never missed a game due to injury since entering the NFL.

The NFL community reacted to Hutchinson's injury on social media by showing support for the Michigan product.
