Ravens suspend Johnson 1 game for refusing to play vs. Eagles
The Baltimore Ravens are suspending wide receiver Diontae Johnson one game without pay for conduct detrimental to the team, general manager Eric DeCosta announced Wednesday.
The team banned Johnson for refusing to enter Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Baltimore has a bye this week, so Johnson will miss the Ravens' matchup with the New York Giants on Dec. 15. DeCosta said the decision to punish the pass-catcher was "difficult."
Johnson joined the Ravens in a midseason trade Oct. 29 from the Carolina Panthers and was expected to raise the team's ceiling while giving Baltimore valuable wide receiver depth. However, the 28-year-old - who had 357 yards in seven games with the Panthers - has caught one pass for 6 yards in four appearances with the Ravens while playing only 39 offensive snaps.
Here are Johnson's stats since joining Baltimore:
Week | Opp | Targets | Rec | Yds | TD | Snaps |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
9 | DEN | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 17 |
10 | CIN | 2 | 1 | 6 | 0 | 5 |
11 | PIT | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 11 |
12 | LAC | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 6 |
Johnson didn't play at all in Sunday's 24-19 home loss to the Eagles.
The 2019 third-round pick posted one 1,000-yard season and earned a Pro Bowl berth across his first five NFL campaigns as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who traded him to Carolina during the 2024 offseason.
