Dolphins' Achane responds to Hill: 'We got dogs' on our roster
Running back De'Von Achane disagrees with the idea that the Miami Dolphins need more "dogs" on the team to win.
"We got dogs. We just need more people to bring it out. You know what I'm saying?" Achane said on the "Up and Adams" podcast Friday, per NFL.com's Coral Smith. "I wouldn't say we need more, as in, like, got to get other people. ... We know what we're capable of. If we're all on, I feel like we're a hard team to beat."
Achane's comments are a direct response to teammate Tyreek Hill, who missed the playoffs for the first time in his career this season. The star wide receiver recently said on a livestream that Miami needs "to put some pressure on motherf----rs" and "add some motherf-----g dogs" to the roster.
Hill also alluded to an exit from the organization in his end-of-season interview Jan. 5, saying he was "out" and had to do what was best for his family. He still has two years left on his contract after signing a revised three-year deal in August.
Miami struggled to maintain momentum this season as quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed six games due to injuries. The team dropped from being one of the best offenses in 2023 - it ranked first in passing yards and total yards per game - to a mediocre offense in 2024. The Dolphins finished 8-9, marking their first losing season since 2019.
"We knew as a team that we dug ourselves in this hole," Achane said. "It sucks that the season ended when we started getting it together. It'd helped if we figured it out earlier. Season would have been better."
The 23-year-old was the go-to running back for the Dolphins this season, rushing for 907 yards and six touchdowns in 2024. He also caught six touchdowns and notched 592 receiving yards.
