Mahomes: Super Bowl loss to Bucs keeps me up at night
Patrick Mahomes' lone Super Bowl defeat still sticks with him four years later.
When asked Wednesday if there's a loss that keeps him up at night, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback said, "The Super Bowl versus Tampa. Pretty easy," according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.
The Chiefs lost 31-9 to the Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. It's the only playoff game in which Kansas City has been held out of the end zone with Mahomes at quarterback.
The three-time Super Bowl MVP was under duress throughout the matchup as the Bucs took advantage of the Chiefs' banged-up offensive line. He was pressured a Super Bowl-record 29 times in the game, per ESPN Stats & Info. Mahomes was also hit nine times and sacked three times, and he threw two interceptions.
Super Bowl LV was played at the Bucs' home field, Raymond James Stadium, but only 25,000 fans were allowed to attend due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mahomes holds a 17-3 postseason record, with two of those losses coming at the hands of Brady.
The 29-year-old is playing for his fourth championship in six years this Sunday in Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles. Mahomes led the Chiefs to victory over Philadelphia two years ago in Super Bowl LVII.
