Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is on track in his recovery after suffering a season-ending hamstring tear midway through the 2024 campaign.

"I'm getting close to where I want to be," Prescott said this week, according to team reporter Tommy Yarrish. "I don't want to put a percentage on it. ... It's about being my best in the fall. So I'm not rushing anything, but I'm where I want to be."

He added, "If I had to play a game today, I definitely could do that. It's about moving forward healthy to make sure I can play 17 times, 20 (games), whatever we get to when the time's right."

Prescott said in March he expects to be ready for Dallas' season opener this fall.

His 2024 season was cut short in Week 9 due to a hamstring injury that required surgery soon after. The Cowboys were 3-5 at the time and finished the season a disappointing 7-10, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

The 2020 campaign also marked the other major injury of Prescott's career - a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle. The 31-year-old passer said he plays his best when using his legs and is prioritizing his mobility during rehab.

"Unfortunately, I've been through this process of recovering from injuries before that I embrace it," Prescott said. "I know that a better version of me is on the other side, so that's just the way that I've approached this whole offseason and this whole rehab process."

The three-time Pro Bowler is entering the first season of the four-year, $240-million extension he signed last September. Prescott has the highest 2025 cap hit among all quarterbacks at $50.5 million, per Spotrac.

Prescott is now the longest-tenured Cowboy after defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence left in free agency and guard Zack Martin retired this offseason.
