Titans to remain at No. 1, will make selection Thursday night
Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi said Tuesday that the franchise will remain at No. 1 and make a selection Thursday night at the NFL draft.
“We've come to a consensus. The entire organization is to stay at that pick. I guess you'll find out Thursday night who we pick," Borgonzi told reporters.
The Titans received genuine trade interest for the top selection but "never opened the door," a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Miami quarterback Cam Ward is projected to be selected No. 1 overall. The Titans reportedly became impressed with him after the Hurricanes' pro day in late March and scheduled an additional private workout with the signal-caller.
Ward is considered the top quarterback in the draft. He began his college career at Incarnate Word before transferring to Washington State in 2022. He committed to the Hurricanes two years later and became Miami's starter for the 2024 campaign.
The 22-year-old shined in his only season with the Hurricanes, throwing for 4,313 yards with a college football-leading 39 touchdowns. He also ranked first among all signal-callers in quarterback rating (88.8) and EPA generated (103.2), according to ESPN analytics.
Tennessee's primary starter in 2024, Will Levis, finished last in success rate among 32 qualified quarterbacks last season. The Titans' offense struggled in the previous two campaigns, ranking 30th in EPA/play across the league during that stretch, per Ben Baldwin's database.
