Report: Giants trying to acquire extra 1st-round pick
The New York Giants are trying to acquire a second first-round pick at the back of Round 1 on Thursday in the 2025 NFL Draft, sources told Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
New York owns the No. 3 pick and is projected to select pass-rusher Abdul Carter. However, the Giants have been heavily linked to a quarterback, and acquiring an extra first-round selection would put them in a position to land a new passer. The Giants also reportedly tried to land the No. 1 pick from the Tennessee Titans earlier in April.
Cam Ward, the top QB prospect available in this year's class, is widely expected to go first overall to the Titans. But one of the draft's biggest questions is when Shedeur Sanders and Jaxson Dart will hear their names called.
Many view Sanders as the second-best passer of the 2025 class, but there are rumblings that he could slide and even fall out of the first round. Meanwhile, Dart's draft stock has risen lately. The former Ole Miss signal-caller is considered a potential Round 1 candidate and is reportedly unlikely to fall past the New Orleans Saints at No. 9.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll is high on Dart, sources told Connor Hughes of SNY earlier this week.
The quarterback position is New York's biggest question mark. The Giants signed veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason, adding them to a depth chart that also features Tommy DeVito.
