The New Jersey Devils aren't waving the white flag on their season despite Jack Hughes' season-ending injury.

The Devils, who already acquired Brian Dumoulin to bolster the blue line, are now interested in Nashville Predators center Ryan O'Reilly, reports Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli.

New Jersey was already linked to many centers on the trade market before Hughes' injury, including New York Islanders veteran Brock Nelson.

O'Reilly is signed for two additional years at a $4.5-million cap hit. He's tallied 16 goals and 23 assists in 58 games this season.

The 34-year-old boasts an impressive playoff resume with 67 points in 81 career postseason contests. In 2019, he won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP while helping the St. Louis Blues win the Stanley Cup. He also took home the Selke Trophy that season.

Without Hughes, who underwent shoulder surgery Wednesday, the Devils' center depth currently consists of captain Nico Hischier, Dawson Mercer, Erik Haula, and Curtis Lazar.
