James Reimer is back where it all began.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed the veteran goalie to a professional tryout Friday, the team announced.

Reimer was a fourth-round pick by the Maple Leafs in 2006 and spent the first six seasons of his NHL career in Toronto.

The 37-year-old posted an .896 save percentage in 24 appearances last season with the Anaheim Ducks and Buffalo Sabres. He owns a .910 save percentage over his 15-year career.

Reimer could provide the Maple Leafs with some key insurance between the pipes. Joseph Woll is on a leave of absence to attend to a family matter, leaving Dennis Hildeby and his six games of NHL experience next on the depth chart behind Anthony Stolarz.
