Misha Donskov will serve as head coach for Team Canada at the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship and the 2026 and 2027 IIHF World Championships, Hockey Canada announced Thursday.
Donskov has never been a head coach of a professional team or at a major international tournament, but he has extensive experience as an assistant coach.
The 49-year-old was an assistant coach for the Dallas Stars for two campaigns (2023-25) and spent three-plus seasons with the Vegas Golden Knights (2020-23), capturing the 2023 Stanley Cup with the latter club.
Internationally, Donskov helped Canada win silver at the 2026 Olympics, gold at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, and gold at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey - all as an assistant coach. He's also contributed to two World Championship gold medals - one as video coach (2015) and one as an assistant coach (2016). Additionally, Donskov won gold as Canada's video coach at the 2015 world juniors.
The 2027 world juniors will be held in Edmonton and Red Deer. Canada is seeking its first gold medal since 2023.
The 2026 Worlds begin May 15 in Switzerland. Mathew Barzal, Macklin Celebrini, Gavin McKenna, Morgan Rielly, and Mark Scheifele are among the players committed to play for Canada.
