The Minnesota Twins added designated hitter Byron Buxton to their ALDS roster as an injury replacement for first baseman Alex Kirilloff, the team announced Wednesday.

Buxton hasn't played since Aug. 1 because of a knee injury and is not 100% but is in a "good enough spot to help us in smaller spurts," Twins manager Rocco Baldelli told the Star Tribune's Bobby Nightengale.

Kirilloff, meanwhile, has a shoulder injury that was affecting his swing, Baldelli said.

"For me right now, I'm not even worrying about what I can do, it's what I can do to help the team," Buxton told The Athletic's Dan Hayes before Game 4. "I've got a whole different mindset. So, it's kind of just coming in and not changing what we're doing."

The 29-year-old Buxton went deep 17 times with a .731 OPS over 85 games during the regular season. However, in 2022, he hit a career-high 28 homers in just 92 contests en route to being named an All-Star.

Meanwhile, Kirilloff doesn't have a hit in 11 plate appearances during the 2023 playoffs after slashing .270/.348/.445 with 11 round-trippers across 88 games this season.

Minnesota faces elimination Wednesday in Game 4 of its best-of-five series against the Houston Astros.
