Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch apologized Wednesday for flipping off fans at Lambeau Field after he was ejected from Sunday's victory against the Green Bay Packers.

"That's not something I wanted to show or want people to notice me as that," Branch said, according to ESPN's Eric Woodyard. "That was just the heat of the moment for me, and I apologize to everyone who seen that, and that won't happen again."

Branch was thrown out for a late helmet-to-helmet hit and flipped off Packers fans before leaving the field.

Branch acknowledges that he needs to lower his target on opposing players.

"I most definitely agree with the call. My target was obviously high, but that was never my intention to aim for the head," Branch told reporters. "Moving forward, I do have to move my target down."

The second-year defensive back is one of the Lions' best players this season. He boasts four interceptions, one forced fumble, and a team-high 11 passes defended.
