The New York Islanders signed defenseman Tony DeAngelo to a one-year contract worth a prorated salary of $775,000 for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign, the team announced Friday.

DeAngelo terminated his KHL contract with SKA St. Petersburg in mid-January, citing family reasons. He tallied six goals and 32 points in 34 games in Russia.

The 29-year-old is subject to entry waivers after playing overseas during this season. Each club will have an opportunity to claim DeAngelo before 2 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Islanders star defenseman Noah Dobson is week-to-week, the team announced Thursday.

DeAngelo registered three goals and 11 points in 38 contests last season with the Carolina Hurricanes. He hit a career high of 15 goals and 53 points in 68 games with the New York Rangers in 2019-20.

The Rangers bought out the New Jersey native in 2021 after an incident with goaltender Alexandar Georgiev. DeAngelo was again bought out, this time by the Philadelphia Flyers, in 2023. He was the first player in NHL history to be bought out more than once (he's since been joined by Ryan Suter).

The Islanders are 19-20-7 and rank last in the Metropolitan Division.
