Blue Jays invite Vlad Jr., Bichette, Biggio to spring training
The Toronto Blue Jays will be getting a glimpse of the future when spring training kicks off in a few weeks.
The team announced Saturday that prospects Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and Cavan Biggio - each the son of a former big-leaguer - were among those who received non-roster invitations to the club's big-league camp in February.
Guerrero will especially come with plenty of fanfare. He ended the 2018 season as MLB Pipeline's top overall prospect and stormed through the minor leagues in 2018. Across four levels, the 19-year-old slashed .381/.437/.636 with 20 home runs, 29 doubles, and 78 RBIs in 95 games.
Bichette, 20, isn't far behind. He was listed as baseball's 11th ranked prospect and had a successful campaign at Double-A New Hampshire. Biggio, while not considered a front-line prospect, found his power stroke last year by blasting 26 home runs and 23 doubles in 132 games.
An invitation to spring camp doesn't necessarily mean a pro debut is forthcoming, though Guerrero is expected to make the leap to Toronto this season and will be seen as a challenger for the American League Rookie of the Year award.
