Kershaw: No one looks good if MLB, union can't resolve business disputes
Clayton Kershaw is optimistic baseball will be played again this season, but only if Major League Baseball and the MLBPA can figure out the business side of their negotiations.
"If it deems medically that we're able to play and the two sides can't figure out the business side of it ... it's not going to look good on anybody," Kershaw said on "The Dan Patrick Show." "If we can figure it out medically, I'm optimistic that we can play."
The Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander offered his comments in response to fellow southpaw Blake Snell saying earlier this week that he wouldn't risk his life to play baseball if he has his pay cut.
"He was probably a little bold in what he said, but we've already made a pay concession," Kershaw said.
"We're going to get paid prorated based on the shortened season, and I thought that was what we decided as a union," he continued. "Obviously, not having fans changes things for some owners but we're still playing the same game."
MLB's proposal for the 2020 season was reportedly approved by team owners earlier this week, but the players' union won't sign off on it if salaries in 2020 come from 50% of revenues during the shortened campaign.
Snell, whose comments were backed by other big leaguers like Bryce Harper, Nolan Arenado, and Marcus Stroman, said Friday that the proposed salary scenario is "not fair to the players" and added that he would only consider playing "if I get 50% and we play 50% of the season."
