Reigning American League MVP Mike Trout confirmed Wednesday that he will play in 2020 after being undecided earlier this month due to concerns about his pregnant wife's safety.

"I'm playing," the Los Angeles Angels outfielder said, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.

Trout, who's widely considered the best player in baseball, acknowledged that he plans to attend the birth of his first child in August but isn't sure how the quarantine protocols will work. The eight-time All-Star added that he has a name picked for the baby but said it's a secret for now.

The 28-year-old said July 3 he didn't feel "comfortable" playing amid the pandemic, explaining that keeping his wife, Jessica, and their first unborn child safe "is my top priority."

However, Trout now feels better about players taking proper safety precautions.

"Guys have been respectful of others," Trout said, according to Greg Beacham of The Associated Press. "Everybody is taking responsibility to wear a mask and do social distancing and just be safe, and we're seeing that.

"The results are there. Just got to pick it up and stay on it when we're on the road. ... We're going to different cities where it's really bad right now. It's going to be tough. As of right now, everything is great."
