The Boston Red Sox will activate All-Star outfielder Kyle Schwarber prior to Friday's game against the Baltimore Orioles, the team announced, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com.

Schwarber, who hasn't suited up for the Red Sox yet after being traded by the Washington Nationals on July 29, will be the designated hitter and bat sixth in the lineup.

The 28-year-old slugger hasn't played since July 2 due to a hamstring injury.

Schwarber slashed .253/.340/.570 with 25 home runs and 53 RBIs across 72 games with the Nationals.

Boston designated utility man Marwin Gonzalez for assignment to make room for Schwarber on the active major-league roster. Gonzalez hit two homers with a .567 OPS over 77 games with the Red Sox.
